Yothu Yindi

A major Aboriginal Australian band which attracts fans from many parts of the world. The music is a combination of traditional Australian aboriginal music with modern western instrumentation.

The lead singer and songwriter, Mandawuy Yunupingu, was named Australian of the year in 1992 in recognition of his commitment to forge greater understanding between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal Australians, and because of his burgeoning role as an ambassador for all Australians.
