A colloquial expression for any car owned by the Australian government - derived from the numberplate, which started with Z.


Zebra Crossing

A pedestrian crossing marked with broad black and white or black and yellow stripes parallel to the kerb.

In Australia, before you cross; STOP, LOOK RIGHT, THEN LEFT, THEN RIGHT AGAIN before crossing.


Zinc

Australia is the second largest exporter of zinc in the world. This metal is predominantly used in the galvanising of steel and the production of brass and die-cast alloys. Other uses are in electronics and specialist plumbing applications. Key export destinations are Japan, Korea, Belgium and India.


Zinc Cream

Developed in 1940 by the Faulding Pharmaceutical company, the white sun block was made from zinc oxide and has been protecting Australian noses ever since.
