About the SYDNEY 2000 Games
Sydney played host in September and October 2000 to the world's biggest sporting and entertainment spectaculars, the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Both Games were a great success and the Olympic Games were declared as "the best Games ever" by IOC President Samaranch.
On top of the success of Australia's athletes in Olympic and Paralympic sporting competition, the Sydney 2000 Games broke numerous other Australian, Olympic, Paralympic and world records.

During the Sydney 2000 Olympic and Paralympic Games this site provided the Games organisers with an effective channel for communicating with and informing the world.
Site statistics during the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games
In May 2001 the site was supplemented with additional games information and then published - not to be updated. Some dated information sections containing procedural data, such as Coming to Sydney, Health and Guide to Sydney have been removed from this version of the site.
The primary role is now as an archive for research. This site is an amalgam of information from a number of Sydney 2000 information systems. At times, especially when in the Public Information & Media (includes Sport information) section it is necessary to use the Back button on your browser to return to the main index pages of the website.
Information contained in the site is current as of October 2000 unless otherwise stated. Links will not be updated and therefore may no longer be operational. Any link to olympics.com will not operate as this site has been closed and the link will forward you to the IOC site.

3. Finding publications, reports, the Games Collection and official records
All Sydney 2000 agencies have supplied the State Library of New South Wales and the National Library of Australia with copies of their major publications.
3.1 State Library of NSW
At the end of the Games the Sydney Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (SOCOG) donated its corporate library to the State Library of NSW. This collection includes:
- Official reports from all previous modern Olympic Games
- research files and publications on the preparations and delivery of the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games and the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games
- candidature city and bid committee publications
- Paralympic Organising Committee - research files and publications
- SOCOG, OCA corporate and advertising videos (for viewing only)

3.2 Post Games Reports of the Sydney 2000 Games
The Official Olympic Post Games Report was published and presented to the IOC President in February 2002 at the Salt Lake City Winter Games. An HTML version is available on this site. Hard copies will be available in the collections of the State Library of NSW and the National Library of Australia.
Copies will also be provided to all National Olympic Committees.

3.3 Sydney 2000 Collection

3.4 Annual Reports
A copy of the SOCOG 2000/01 Annual Report is available in an accessible version of PDF (only 314Kb).
The SPOC 2000 Annual Report is also an accessible PDF format and is 504 Kb .
The OCA 2001 Annual Report is also in PDF format and is 957 Kb.
3.5 The NSW Government Contribution Report.
A copy of the Report describing the financial contributions and costs incurred, and support services provided by the NSW Government towards the Sydney 2000 Games was tabled in the NSW Parliament on 11 April 2002. A Report on the Financial Contribution by the NSW Government to the Sydney 2000 Games, (accessible PDF - 1.1Mb).
The report provides not only the financial impacts of the Games on the NSW Government but also the services provided and outcomes achieved by all NSW Government agencies involved in the Games including The Olympic Co-ordination Authority (OCA), the Sydney Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (SOCOG), the Sydney Paralympic Organising Committee (SPOC) and the Olympic Roads and Transport Authority (ORTA).
3.6 Economical and Business Benefits Report
The NSW Government Department of State and Regional Development commissioned PricewaterhouseCooper to produce a report on the Economical and Business benefits of the Sydney 2000 Games- a Collation of Evidence. The evidence collated in this report supports the view that the Games delivered substantial benefits to Sydney, New South Wales and Australia.
3.7 Official Records of Sydney 2000 agencies
As required by the State Records Act 1998 official records of the Sydney 2000 Games agencies sentenced for permanent retention will be transferred to State Records Authority of NSW as State archives.
4. Sydney 2000 Images
4.1 Video footage
The State Library of NSW has a complete set of Sydney 2000 Games videotapes. These are a record of the television feeds during the Games. These tapes are for viewing on-site only.
Master copies of video footage have been transferred to the State Records Authority of NSW

4.2 Photographic Images
Both SOCOG and OCA maintained comprehensive photographic collections.
A selection of 800 OCA images showing the development of Games venues and there use during Test Events can be viewed in this site at - Archive800. These images are available for purchase (from The Sydney Olympic Park Authority - enquires@sopa.nsw.gov.au)
In late 2001 the 25,000 SOCOG images were transferred to The Sydney Olympic Park Authority for cataloguing and rental/sale.

6. Current site for activities at Sydney Olympic Park
A new NSW Government agency was created on 1 July 2001 to manage, market and develop the main Olympic site at Homebush Bay: The Sydney Olympic Park Authority.
